Purpose of the role
The purpose of a teaching assistant at BISP is to help fulfil the school’s holistic mission - to inspire learning, nurture wellbeing, and ignite passion.
Specifically, Primary Teaching Assistants help to improve the learning of the children either by working directly with children as specified by the teacher, indirectly by freeing the teacher from administrative/clerical work so that the teacher can focus on teaching and learning, and preparing materials and resources as directed by the teacher
Responsibilities
Specific duties may vary from year group to year group.
In general, the TA should follow the instructions and requests of the teacher/year leader to which they are allocated.
Duties include:
- Working with individual children, or groups of children, as instructed
2. Escorting children around the school, both individually (eg to the nurse) or as a class (eg to a specialist lesson) at the request of the class teacher/year leader
3. Assisting with toileting needs (Little Ducks and Early Years)
4. Taking break, bus and sleep supervisory duties as according to policy
5. Taking extra-curricular activities as according to policy
6. Preparing displays and teaching resources
7. Photocopying and filing
8. Maintaining student records
9. Monitoring resources in the allocated area, highlighting when stocks may be running low
10. Maintaining a tidy and presentable environment
11. Assisting in translation with Thai parents and children
12. Other duties that might reasonably be asked to fulfil the purpose as set out above.
Additionally, TA should:
1. Work in collaboration with colleagues
2. Bring any matters of concern to the attention of the appropriate teacher or administrator
3. Attend major functions/events at the request of the Principal
4. Be in school from 7:30 am until 4:00pm (Friday 3pm)
5. Undertake any other duties to help contribute to the success of the school as required by the Principal.
TAs are allocated to specific classes or year groups at the start of the year at the discretion of the Primary Principal. TA’s may be moved between classes or year groups during the course of the year if required for operational purposes.
