o Develop and optimize daily, weekly, and monthly truck routes to ensure efficient delivery schedules and maximize load capacity.
o Utilize routing software and geographical knowledge to determine the most cost-effective and time-efficient delivery paths.
o Consider factors such as traffic patterns, road restrictions, delivery windows, and customer specific requirements.
• Scheduling and Dispatching:
o Schedule and assign drivers to routes, ensuring adequate staffing and adherence to hours of service regulations.
o Dispatch trucks and monitor their progress, providing real-time updates and addressing any issues that arise.
o Coordinate with drivers for pick-ups, deliveries, and backhauls.
• Communication and Coordination:
o Liaise daily with sales, customer service, warehouse, and production teams to understand delivery needs and synchronize logistics operations.
o Communicate proactively with customers regarding delivery times, delays, or any changes.
o Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure truck availability and address any mechanical issues.
• Cost Management and Efficiency:
o Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs through optimized routing, consolidation of shipments, and efficient resource allocation.
o Monitor fuel consumption and other operational expenses.
o Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to delivery efficiency, on-time performance, and cost.
• Documentation and Compliance:
o Ensure all necessary transportation documentation (e.g., bills of lading, delivery receipts, permits) are accurate and complete.
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and ensure compliance with all relevant local, national, and international transportation laws and regulations (e.g., DOT, HOS).
o Manage and file all planning-related records.
• Problem Solving and Adaptability:
o Respond quickly and effectively to unforeseen circumstances such as traffic delays, breakdowns, or changes in customer orders.
o Develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions to delivery schedules.
• Technology Utilization:
o Proficiently use transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, GPS tracking systems, and other relevant logistics technologies.
o Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data analysis and communication.
